Hotel Moura has one billiards table.
One of the most popular sports is available to hotel guests in the lobby bar area.
Billiards is a sport played on a special table covered with cloth and bordered by rails. The goal is to use a cue to strike the balls, aiming to pocket specific balls into the table’s six pockets. There are different types of billiards, with eight-ball, nine-ball, and ten-ball being the most popular. The game requires concentration, precision, and strategic thinking, and it’s a preferred way to relax and have fun with friends.
Types of Billiards Games:
Eight-ball
Eight-ball is one of the most widespread pocket billiards games. In the United States, it is most often played on 7-foot tables, commonly called “bar tables.” At the start of the game, the fifteen object balls (excluding the cue ball) are racked in a triangle. The game is called Eight-ball because the winner is ultimately determined by legally pocketing ball number 8 (the black ball). Billiard tables intended for Eight-ball are standard 6- to 9-foot tables with six pockets.
Nine-ball
Nine-ball is one of the billiards games most commonly played in bars and venues. This is due to its considerably simpler rules compared to games like Eight-ball or Snooker. As with all billiards games, two players alternate turns. Each player attempts a legal shot and, if they pocket any ball, they may continue shooting. In Nine-ball, a shot is legal if the cue ball first strikes the lowest-numbered ball on the table (1 through 9), after which any ball on the table must touch a cushion, and the cue ball remains on the table. An exception applies if the player pockets ball number 9: if the shot is legal and the 9 goes in, the player who took the shot wins.
Ten-ball
Ten-ball is a relatively newer billiards game. Its rules are similar to Nine-ball, but several key differences make it more popular with professionals worldwide. As the name suggests, the game is played with 10 balls, with the 10 ball being the game-winning ball when pocketed. However, the balls are racked in a triangle with the 10 in the center, which reduces easy balls made on the break and lowers the chances that the breaker can win without the opponent coming to the table.
Another key difference is the call-shot requirement—each player must declare whether they are playing a safety or attempting to pocket a specific ball in a specific pocket. An undeclared shot ends the run and turns over the table—the opponent may either take the shot or pass it back to the player who failed to call it (typically when the layout is unfavorable). This largely removes the element of “luck” and makes the outcome depend primarily on the players’ skill.
Table Tennis
Hotel Moura has one table tennis table measuring 2.74 × 1.525 m and 76 cm in height.
Table tennis is a sport played by two or four players who hit a table tennis ball with a racket (paddle). It is played on a table divided in the middle by a net. The aim is to prevent the ball from bouncing more than once on your side and to return it so that it bounces more than once on the opponent’s side or, if it bounces only once, so that the opponent cannot return it.
